Pilates Lateral Breathing / Thoracic Breathing

Lateral breathing is performed by engaging the Transverse Abdominis and moving the breath into the sides and back of the ribcage (the thoracic spine area). It takes practice to train the Intercostal muscles of the ribcage to expand and contract to get a full and deep lateral breath.
